Re-build Your Soul ~ by Pastor Jim Binney

For my first blog I want to post an excerpt from the book Charles and I read for our premarital counseling. "The Ministry of Marriage" by Jim Binney. It is a fantastic book for anyone to read and made some fantastic points on how to stay a strong Christian. Here is a note a wrote from Chapter 7, :) it's a good read. :

Because of the beauty and luster of lies, sin and darkness even the most devoted Christian cannot always withstand being a lured into the enticement of error. They find themselves being pushed into the world's thinking and pulled away from the Bible without realizing it. Their need for gratification and fulfillment will often blind them to the value of the harsh Truth in the Bible.

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after" Christ. (Colossians 2:8 KJV)

The battle for the soul is a crucial one because much hangs in the balance of the outcome. How can this battle be won? This Bible strategy is simple and effective: identify the worldly lie, reject it and replace it with the Bible Truth.

As God commissioned Jeremiah, He told him that he would have to undo some common thinking before he could do the right thinking. In fact God used four negatives and two positives in He's preaching. He told Jeremiah that he had to root out, pulldown, destroy and throw down before he could regain a program to rebuild and replant.

"See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant. " (Jeremiah 1:10 KJV)

Before you have a garden and "plant" your seeds, you need to "root out" the weeds.

Before a new house can be "built" the old house needs to be "pulled down", "destroyed" and "thrown down".

To plant among weeds or to build over decaying lumber is foolish and counterproductive.

As plain and unattractive as the cross is, it promotes sacrifice rather than gratification, offers penalty for sin instead of pleasure and promises happiness more for the afterlife than for the present. The truth of Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for all our sins and the truth that we are all sinners unworthy of God's love is presented so frankly that it is very nature is offensive to many. That is why Paul asked the question, "Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?" (Galatians 4:16 KJV)
